The heart of our story
The Woman Behind the Name
Our story begins with a woman affectionately known to everyone as Mama.
She wasn't just Mama to her children. She was Mama to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and even the friends who became family along the way.
Mama had a passion for cooking, but more importantly, she had a heart for serving others. For her, cooking was more than preparing a meal. It was a ministry. It was how she expressed love, extended hospitality, and cared for those around her.
It didn't matter what day of the week it was. We could stop by Mama's house and know there would be something good to eat. Her kitchen was where conversations happened, laughter was shared, and memories were made.
When Mama passed away in 2022, something changed. The food just didn't seem to taste quite the same anymore. It wasn't simply about recipes or seasonings. It was about the love, the atmosphere, and the person behind the food.
And that's where the name Nothin Like Mama's was born.
Because there really is nothin like Mama's cooking. And there's nothin like the comfort of a home-cooked meal made with love.

A love passed down
From Mama's Kitchen to Mine
As the oldest of five children, cooking became part of my life early on. Over the years, I developed my own love for preparing meals and bringing people together.
Much like Mama's house, my home became a gathering place. My friends would call on any given day just to ask, “Are you cooking?” And if the answer was yes, chances were somebody was coming over to get a plate.
In 2019, I began cooking and selling plates at my job. What started as an opportunity to share my cooking became something much more meaningful.
Every Friday, the break room became a gathering place. Coworkers came together over plates of home-cooked food, sharing conversations, laughter, and moments of connection in the middle of their workday.
Seeing how something I prepared could bring people together filled my heart with joy. It reminded me of the fellowship at Mama's house and the memories we made around her table.
I realized that cooking wasn't just something I enjoyed. It was another way to serve, connect, and create meaningful experiences for others.
Love lives on

Today, Nothin Like Mama's Soul Food & Catering is rooted in family, inspired by faith, and committed to serving delicious, comforting food with genuine Southern hospitality.
Whether we're preparing a family dinner, catering a wedding, serving guests at a corporate event, or bringing loved ones together for a special celebration, our purpose remains the same: to create experiences where people feel welcomed, cared for, and connected through good food.
Mama may no longer be here physically, but her legacy lives on in the love we put into every dish, the people we serve, and the memories we help create.

It's about the love behind it, the people gathered around it, and the memories made because of it.
